About the Guild

This is a very brief introduction. Further information on officers, committees, rules, insurance etc. and the Welcome Leaflet will be found in Guild Admin, and more about events in Diaries & Events

Objects

The objects of the Guild include the encouragement of ringing for Divine Service, cultivation of the art of change ringing and preservation of the church bells in an efficient condition.

  • The preservation of church bells is the responsibility of the belfry stewardship committee. Its convenor is always willing to advise on any problems of tower maintenance, or provide practical assistance. This committee is also working on an ambitious project to provide a survey of all the towers and bells in the Guild.

A Bell Restoration Fund is available to assist with the cost of maintaining the bells. Anyone wanting to apply to this should contact the Guild secretary in good time.

  • The cultivation of the art of change ringing is the special responsibility of the education and striking committees, which organise several events each year. Additionally much activity which comes under this heading is organised at district level.

  • Most importantly, at both Guild and District level the art is also promoted through social events, including annual dinners and ringing outings.

Membership

  • Ringing members are elected at district meetings. The standard is not fixed but they should at least be able to handle a bell safely.

  • Probationary membership is open to those learning to ring. Members, who are elected in the tower, have no voting rights but are covered by the Guild third party insurance.

  • Details of Life, Compounding and Associate membership will be found in Guild rules.
