The Hursley Sunday Service band entered the National 12 Bell Striking Contest this year for the first time. They were drawn to ring on the excellent recently augmented ring of twelve at Tewkesbury Abbey on Saturday 29th March.
Facing tough competition from some previous winners, Hursley finished a creditable fourth out of seven behind St Pauls Cathedral, York Minster and Guildford Cathedral and beating Exeter Cathedral, Reading and Melbourne. The top three teams go forward to the final at Lincoln Cathedral where they meet the top three teams from the other two eliminators which were at Cheltenham and Worcester, All Saints.
The Hursley band consisted, in order of ringing, of Ian McCallion, Ken Warner, Rosemary Hill, Janice Higgins, Tony Smith, Christine Saunders, Ceri Salter, Christine Hill, David Salter, Richard Thompson, Andrew Craddock and Peter Hill. The test piece was half a course of Lincolnshire Surprise Maximus.
